Congress enacted the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) for employers who hire individuals from specific targeted groups facing barriers to employment. These groups include veterans, SNAP recipients, ex‑felons, SSI recipients, long‑term unemployed individuals, designated community residents, and others. This program was authorized through December 31, 2025. Even though the credit is currently expired it is recommended to continue pre-screening new hires using Form 8850.
